Budget Travel: 6 Tips for Great Asia Travel

Jul 09, 2013 on Travel

Being careful with money is usually a big priority for anyone going on holiday or travelling for a longer period of time.  Whilst everyone wants to make the most of their budget travel, and nobody wants to be scrimping and saving and watching every last cent, having an awareness of costs and how to save money when undertaking any Asia travel can really bring peace of mind.  Follow these six useful travel tips to make more of your vacation.

1.      Stick to Your Budget

Before you set off, make a note of how much money you have available for your holiday, and be realistic.  Work out roughly where you want to go on your Asia travel, and what things you will need to pay for.  If you have not already booked and paid for certain holiday elements, don’t forget to think about your accommodation, meals, drinks, transport, excursions and activities, as well as leaving some left over for some small souvenirs and an emergency contingency amount.  A good way to begin is to think about your overall total, divide it by the number of days you plan to spend on holiday, and use that as a maximum daily guide line.  Try to stay within that amount.  There will be days when you spend less and days when you spend more, but as long as you are mainly spending less than your daily maximum, you should be fine.

2. Track Your Spending

To know how much you are spending and how much things in general cost when planning your future days, it really is important that you keep a note of how much you are spending, and on what.  Although this may feel tiresome to begin with, it really is very useful, and can help keep you on track with your spending.  I have overspent several times when travelling, so now I am carful to write down all my spending and use my list as a guideline for what I have left.  Rather than being a restriction, I find this gives me greater freedom, as I always know exactly what I can and cannot afford, instead of always having a niggling doubt in the back of my mind.  Make the most of your budget travel by being careful and aware of your spending.

3. Cut Down on Taxis and Expensive Forms of Transport

One of the best ways to sight see is to walk!  Not only will you see so much more, and experience the atmosphere of a place, but it is also completely free!  For longer journeys, on budget travel use public transport and try to buy tickets direct from bus stations and train stations rather than through agencies, who will charge a commission.

Where you must use more expensive options, look for the cheapest way of doing it – look at online deals with Showmethecoupon to see where you can make a saving – try, for example, a Travelation Coupon or a Vayama Promo Code.

4. Compare Places to Stay

If you have not already pre-booked your accommodation, don’t settle for the first place you find when arriving in town.  Check a few different places before handing over any money to make sure that you really are getting the best deal.  If I am travelling with a friend, we usually leave one person with the heavy bags in an easy to find cafe, whilst the other person checks out a few different places and gathers some prices.  This means that we don’t just settle for the first thing that we see.  This is one of several great travel tips to bear in mind.  It also often pays to look online for deals and take advantage of any discounts for booking in advance.  Knowing when you arrive in a town that you already have a place to stay can be a huge weight off your mind when you are doing some Asia travel.  Have a look at the Last Minute Travel Promo Code for some great savings on accommodation.

5.  Watch Your Eating

Try to alternate more pricey restaurants with cheaper market food or self catering options.  A good tip in any place is to watch where the locals are eating – it’s likely to be good food and at great prices!  I’m terrible for often wanting to eat western style food rather than typical local food when I’m doing Asia travel.  I’ve found that by alternating western meals with local food I can still be careful on my budget travel.  Some restaurants publish savings online, so it can sometimes be wise to check these and plan where you will eat in advance.  Have a look at promocode4share’s restaurant savings.

6. Look for Reduced Entry Deals

Many theme parks, museums and other attractions have periods when entry is less, sometimes even free.  Look out for these times and try to plan your visit accordingly.  Check with the place itself and also online.  There may be coupons available for discounted entrance prices.  Also, remember to always carry your student card, senior citizen card, or other ID that generally gives concessions, if appropriate, and always ask if there are discounted costs.  When I travel with my mother, I always have her show her senior citizen card to save her money.  These travel tips can save you a significant amount of money on your budget travel.
